Adventure Cove - Day 4

Another good day at camp for Noah.  The kids got to sleep in a little this morning and breakfast was a contentenal buffey style.

After breakfast, our camp troop headed out on a 3/4 mile hike down the beach to Camp Meriwether Boy Scout camp.  The morning activity was to tour round the camp and learn more about what being a boy scout is all about.

Camp Meriwether is a beautiful camp with lots of room and activities.  We walked past several ranges, archery, shotguns, and black powder shooting.  Noah, of course, immediately turns to me and as if we get to do those today :).  He is now interested in becoming a boy scout so he came come back and do all those activities.

The kids also got to see Tomahawk throwning and a full-size remake of the Lewis and Clark Fort they lived in at the Oregon coast.

While we were waiting for lunch, one of the adult leaders got a group of kids together and taught them to play ulitmiate frisbee.  Noah got right out there an played with the kids and did a good job playing Ultimate.  I wasn't sure if he would want to play, but he really got into it and enjoyed himself.  Something to keep doing once we return home.

The kids got to eat lunch with the Boy Scouts in the mess hall.  Hot dogs... the kids were in heaven.  The first hotdogs all week :)

The 3/4 mile hike back was much more of a challenge.  We were walking that entire distance with strong winds blowing in our face the whole time (with 30+ MPH gust).  Anyone that has been on an OR beach on a windy day knows about this, the sand blowing all around, pelting your face and getting in everything.  The entire crew trugged slowing into the headwind and eventualy made it back.

Towards the end of the walk back, Noah annouced that he had invented a new game during the walk, named Sandstorm.  For the next 15 minutes, he proceeded to tell me all about this game and how it was played. Another one of Noah's interesting game inventions.  After listening to it, it sounds like a pretty interesting game, and I wrote up what he discussed and hopefully we can try out a prototype back home.  Amazing kid.

The afternoon elective classes were pretty evenful also.   Archery and BB's were the first two, where Noah earned a pin for both today by completing enough range time to qualify for it.  Congrats to Noah for sticking with it to make it to that goal.

The final elective for the day was Rocket Launching.  I managed to put the finishing touches on Noah's rocket after returning from our hike.   The launch was successful, with Noah's rocket launching without issues, saling up into the sky, deploying its chute, and drifting down almost to where the launchers were.  Noah really enjoy the rocket launch, so may be something to try back home.

Dinner tonight was cooked by us adults in our campfire.  The menu was chicken burritos, which we wrap in foil and stick them in the coals to cook.  Overall the meal turned out prettty well.

After Dinner,  it was time for another campfire, this one featuring skits by they cub scouts.  Our pack did a skit, in which Noah got to be one of the main parts (which had a lot of comedic relief) :).  The kids and Noah did a great job, and got a lot of laughts from the audience.

In the remaining time before bed, Noah, Zak and I went to the dining hall and play Star Flux.  The camp staff was in the hall having a meeting.  After it was over, several of them came by to see what we were doing, and we got a lot of interest and comments about Star Flux, which Noah and Zak ate up.  It also seemed that there were extra cookies and hot chocolates from the staff meeting, which they shared with us.  Major score.  We will have to hang out in the dining hall more often.

Finally..day is done.. time to rest.
