The big highlight of the lagoon time was getting Noah, and even Katy, to try paddle boarding (standing up on a surfboard and using a paddle to propel you around). After some initial trepidation and a little encouragement, Noah really took to paddle boarding and was crossing the lagoon on his own, and was able to get back on the board when he fell in deep water. He had a nice smile of accomplishment at the end of the rental time. He even ask to do it again a little later in the day, so he got in another 30 minutes.
Katy also did some paddle boarding for a few minutes. She got up for a little while, then fell, and decided that she had rather play in the sand.
With vacations comes the change to meet new friends. Today the kids bumped into someone they met in the pool a few days back and we all hung out for part of the afternoon at the lagoon. The kids had a blast playing with their new friend and I get the feeling this will not be the last we see of this friend on this vacation.
After the lagoon, Noah and I escaped to play some lawn checkers as the girls went back to rest and get ready for the evening. Noah has been excited to play yard checkers since we arrived. It was an enjoyable game and I can see some of the beginnings of strategy forming in Noah's through process :).
We ended the evening by going to the luau, Legends of the Pacific, at the Hilton. We were a little concerned that the kids would get bored, but both of them seemed to like it. Katy even stated that she liked it much more than she expected.
The kids did a good job with the dinner buffet. They has a separate buffet for kids, and both Noah and Katy went over, by themselves, and fixed their own plates and returned to their seats and ate. Proud parent moment. When the show started Katy watched most of it with interest. Noah watched part of it, usually a few minutes of each act, before returning to the game-of-the-day on his iPod.
All-in-all, another great day!
