The other day Katy was REALLY hungry. Of course, we were in the middle of getting showered, dressed etc. So I told her to wait patiently. She came back 2 min later to remind me that she was hungry. I know, I said. I'll be down in to make breakfast soon. About 5 min later, she came up... looking very proud and announced that she had made breakfast for her and Noah.
Katy: I made mini pancakes for Noah and waffles for me.
Me: um... you made breakfast? did you use the toaster? (which of course she is not allowed to do)
Katy: um.... (looking worried) well, um, we were HUNGRY.
Me/Chris: You are NOT allowed to use the toaster.
Katy: runs to her room to hide
It was really hard to be stern with her about it b/c I was actually pretty proud that she took the initiative to do it for herself and that she made something for Noah too. So instead of getting in trouble I explained the dangers of the toaster (ouch! hot) but told her I was proud of her doing things for herself. She even got the dishes out, and the syrup and silver ware and then put things away too! We are now teaching her how to use the toaster properly, moving dishes to a lower shelf so she can reach without climbing etc.
On a side note... the microwave door was open. So I asked if she used the microwave. Apparently she had tried to but couldn't figure it out. Thank goodness we have an old microwave that even Chris and I have problems figure out sometimes!

Wow! I see a Bed and Breakfast in her future. Major props to Katy! Now if only I could teach Jack how to get his breakfast ready, I could sleep an extra hour on the weekends!
